The next "Age"

-There have been many points in history where man has made significant progress.  I'm reminded of the Iron Age, the Bronze Age, the Aqueduct Age, the Renaissance, the Industrial Age, and the current age we're living in, the Information Age.  During these "ages", man has made important advancements in many fields of civilization, namely technological progress.
Though many people have speculated what man's next age will be, I offer a prediction of what will be the catalyst for that age to take place.  I believe bio-chemists and genetic engineers will come up with some sort of drug, treatment, process, etc. that will reduce greatly, if not eliminate completely, the need for humans to sleep.
Think about it.   We spend a quarter of our lives sleeping.  Think of all the lost production that results from us wasting time to sleep.  And we're not really wasting it though because our bodies need it.  But while we're sleeping, we're not learning.  The day a drug of some sort comes out that allows us to stay up 24 hours a day, or close to, is the day man's production and intellectual gains are increased 25-30%.

So the day they do come out with something that eliminates our need to waste 6-8 hours a day on sleep is the day you say to yourself, "Hey didn't Keith (aka Nostradamus) predict this way back when?"

My 5th grade teacher asked us what wish we make in order to change ourselves, have some power, etc. We asked her what she would want and she said she wishes she only needed 1 hour to sleep every night. That was so much she wanted to do but needed about 8 hours every night in order to be awake enough to get thigns done. Cool idea.

I wonder if a consequence of such medical advance would be even more business than before? Would we be so preoccupied with activities that we might not relax and be restored emotionally and spiritually? Worse yet is the fact that people think that they would not be as busy. The standard for a work day would not be 9-5 but 5am to 8pm or worse. On top of that we would only find more stuff to fill our lives with is my worry.

By the way, put me on the waiting list for that drug.
