Honeymoonin'
-I think most people desire their potential future honeymoon to be the best trip ever in their lives. I sure hope so myself. I want to go somewhere exotic and beautiful. Somewhere in the eastern Caribbean I think. St. Kitts, Nevis, Martinique…one of those pirate towns :)
Anyways, another disadvantage I've noticed among young couples getting married is they usually don't have a lot of money. This means either the girl gets a bargin bin diamond, a bargin bin wedding, or they just don't go anywhere particular exotic or unique for their honeymoon. Obviously material things like this don't matter when it comes to what's important in a marriage, but gee, as a guy newly devoting my life to a women, I want to show her the greatest two, three, maybe more weeks in her life! I guess I just feel bad for couples that already have to worry about money the second they get married. We'll probably have to worry about it the rest of our marriage…what's the rush, might as well spend a couple weeks of freedom, even if it means postponing the wedding a little to gather the funds. Well, to each couple their own…
On the flip side, just cause a guy can show a girl the world doesn't mean he can love her. Yes folks, I'm not that superficial :)
Serenity
-If you haven't seen this movie yet, you should. Quick info:
"…teeming with an overwhelming amount of integrity, heart, soul, and well-developed characters...
The short-lived television series Firefly, which was jostled about erratically on Fox, never fully aired, and more or less suffered a fate not befitting such a well-crafted, expertly written show, has miraculously spawned none other than a full-length feature film."
This movie will probably be the best sci-fi movie you'll see this year, if not years. In fact, the last sci-fi space movie I've liked this much was probably Stargate, way back in 1994 (gee, has it been that long?). Rest assured I'm just like you too, in that
I was not familiar with the TV series it was based on. So I went in not knowing what to expect, yet came out thoroughly pleased and entertained.
I think I've realized why I really like this film; it almost feels like a live action Cowboy Bebop but with "Serenity" painted on the side of the ship.
Girls growing up without dads
-I've "dated" (two or three dates each) two girls that didn't have a consistent father figure in their lives growing up (divorced, dead-beat, etc.). These girls were extremely nice people, and I have nothing but good things to say about them, but in retrospect as I have matured, I realize that their desire, whether they knew it or not, for both emotional and physical affection was off the charts. Thankfully my ignorance and naiveté at the time rendered me oblivious to this, and I avoided potentially damaging situations.
Whether the lack of an upright, affirming, and nurturing father figure in their lives contributed to this I can't say for sure, but as I look at other peer girls that have grown up in the same situations, the same emotional dearth seems sadly apparent. It does seem like a trend. The more troubling thing is that it seems these types of girls are veterans of bouncing from one guy to the next, trying to fill that emotional void left by the phantom father.
Again, I'm not saying this is the case for every girl without an aforementioned-type father, I'm just saying I have a theory that the lack of one can greatly contribute to a damaging feeling of unlovedness that they may or may not try to fulfill via many different guys/boyfriends and that they may or may not expose these deep wounds to anyone.
