November 29, 2008- 'Four Christmases' Review Downright Whack

    MSNBC review of 'Four Christmases'

I was reading this 'Four Christmases' review on MSNBC.com and I couldn't help but notice how backwards the reviewer's perspective was.  He literally bashes the movie for having a…Hollywood surprise, family orientated theme.  Now I haven't seen the movie so I can't say for sure the degree of the family theme, but from the Mr. Duralde's description, it does seem to "uphold the sanctity of the institution of marriage and the home."  Yet Mr. Duralde goes on to bash these seemingly archaic notions and traditions of yesteryear.  What an asinine view!  He's bashing the movie for being morally good instead of bad…or to speculate his thoughts, not being indicative of today's f-ed up families, relationships, and generally broken social construct.  It's like the idea of a "happy" family is so foreign to him, it's stupid ignorance to even suggest it, let alone make a movie about it.

I can only assume Mr. Duralde, as with many others who surprisingly hold this "I'm gonna hold onto my anger from the past" attitude and cast scorn on those Cleaver families out there and their fantasy family values, had a dysfunctional family himself and he's merely relaying all he knows or experienced about family.   What a tragedy though!  My heart breaks for Mr. Duralde and those with such a negative view towards traditional family life and values.  They mock the very thing deep down that they desire so much.

I'm writing a separate article on this quote below, but I think it's appropriate in this context.

"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."
    -Tolstoy
