February 5, 2008 - Linkin Park? I like Linkin Park just as much as the any other 2000 college sophomore. Well maybe not that much, but I thought their interpretation of rapcore and rock was oftentimes catchy. Touching upon themes ranging from teenage angst to social injustice has put them a step above a lot of their immature and/or crude counterparts. Anyways, their latest single, "Shadow of the Day", has been making the Top 40 radio waves and I like it. There's no Chester Bennington screaming, but it's melodic and flows well; a departure from their typical "angry" music, but it's still a bit gritty and impactful nonetheless. I love the X-files keyboard sound by the way. As far as the lyrical content and meaning, I'm not entirely sure what they're getting at. It definitely has some beginnings/endings theme and I get this whole "starting anew and leaving old things behind" feel to it. Or it could have to do with suicide. Or, from the video, frustrations with society and government? Not sure. If you have any insights into it's meaning, feel free to let me know. Here's the video to the song. I close both locks below the window. I close both blinds and turn away. Sometimes solutions aren't so simple. Sometimes goodbye's the only way. And the sun will set for you, The sun will set for you. And the shadow of the day, Will embrace the world in grey, And the sun will set for you. Pink cards and flowers on your window, Your friends all plead for you to stay. Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple. Sometimes goodbye's the only way. |
