May 3, 2005- Florida judge approves abortion for 13-year old [ARTICLE] Florida judge approves abortion for 13-year old "Teen ruled 'competent' to make decision to terminate pregnancy" Things I was 'competent' in doing at the age of 13: 1. Building a pretty good fort in the park behind my house (both "bamboo" and traditional "wood and brush") 2. Defeating the evil wizard Ghaleon in Lunar: Silver Star Story for the Sega CD 3. Riding my bike home from Adam Rocap's house in less in than 52 seconds 4. Borrowing money from my older brother John 5. Reciting the intro song to the cartoon Conan: The Adventurer 6. Naming the top 5 players on the Philadelphia Flyers 7. Drawing great stick-figure war scenes 8. Knowing how to execute every single move in Street Fighter II: Champion Edition 9. Playing street roller hockey with my brother and friends -I was going to start a list of things I was not 'competent' in doing at the age of 13 but what's the point? The only thing I ask of the state of Florida is to monitor this girl for the next 15 years. Depending how she turns out, both physically and mentally, they will be able to empirically gauge whether they were right or wrong in deciding whether she was 'competent' enough to end a life on her own volition. Then they can use this case, as they do litigation, as a precedent for future incidents like it. Is this not a logical and progressive ideal? |
