May 4th, 2009- "Yet you speak the password of the Dúnedain."!!!

Ok I must admit this caught me completely be surprise.  I'm almost ashamed I didn't know about this project earlier.  I mean they released the trailer for it back in February for Shire's sake!  May I present to you 'The Hunt for Gollum'!  Trailer below.

This is a short film written, directed, music composed, and acted completely by a group of Tolkien and Lord of the Rings movies fans…and it's stinkin' bread awesome!  I can't believe how cool and well done this fan project movie is.  I'm really in awe considering it reportedly was done on a budget of $3,000!  Talk about true believers.  They put me to shame.  Anyways, you have to watch this short film, about 40 minutes long.  I thought it'd be some cheesy Youtube, shot in the backyard kind of fan film, but boy did I think wrong.  It ain't Peter Jackson and Co. and their hundreds of millions of dollars budget, but it sure is a lot of bang for your buck!

Here's a good small editorial from popular movie site www.ropeofsilicon.com,

"Back in mid-February I posted the trailer for the independently made film The Hunt for Gollum, which follows Aragorn (Adrian Webster), the Heir of Isildur as he sets out to find the creature Gollum (voiced by Gareth Brough and Jason Perino).  The creature must be found to discover the truth about the ring, and to protect the future Ringbearer.  The script for the film was adapted from elements of the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" by Chris Bouchard, who also served as exec producer and director.

I just finished watching it and will say it is quite impressive considering it was made for a reported $3,000 and is being offered for free.  However, beyond that, it is impressive regardless of how much it cost to make or how free it is.  Obviously it won't match the extraordinary production costs of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but it has the stylings down and was a lot of fun to watch.

It includes a dose of action including a fantastic little bit of neck stabbage, Gandalf, orcs, elves, the Nazgûl and just an overall sense of returning to the land of Middle Earth.  Now that Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro have decided not to film a go between from the upcoming Hobbit films and The Lord of the Rings I would say this could serve as the unofficial filler."
