  • Quarterback greatness
I just realized this past Sunday that what makes a quarterback great has nothing to do with how far or accurately he can throw a ball, it completely has to do with his offensive line.  You watch guys like McNabb and Brady; they have years in the pocket, which leads to their good stats.  You watch guys like Brunnel, Warner, Bulger, and Losman; they are sometimes tackled as they receive the snap.  You put a guy like Brunnel or Warner behind a line like the Eagles or Patriots and you'll get a Hall of Fame performance.  Now a guy like Peyton Manning may be a great technical quarterback, but you put some pressure on him, like all the greats, and he'll fold like a lawn chair, as he has so far this season.
That's why I'm convinced Randall Cunningham is the greatest quarterback of all time.  Not only did the guy rush for almost 5,000 yards and 35 touchdowns, he passed for almost 30,000 and 207 TD's!  This means this guy didn't always have a pocket of protection to pick and choose receivers and had to make plays on his feet, but also made the pass if needed.  You might say Mike Vick is a better scrambler, but on the passing front Vick is projected to throw for about 5,000 yards less than Randall if they play the same amount of games.   Anyways, when it came to passing, running, and highlight film plays, nobody beats Cunningham.  Even if the pocket collapsed, he still was just as dangerous a quarterback.  Most QB's in the game today can't say that, and it's painfully apparent.

  • It's good to be an Eagles fan
And I'm not just saying because they're so good and located in the same city as the Flyers.  I'm saying because they're always on TV; which is great for those of us that don't have NFL Sunday Direct Ticket!  Not only are the Birds on ESPN Sunday Night Game and Monday Night Football a lot, both nationally televised games, they're on the local broadcasts a ton even when it's just a regional game.  I haven't missed an Eagles game yet this year and I won't even next week as their contest against Kansas City is on TV again!  Wonderful!

  • Fantasy football is the new male addiction
I've never seen a phenomenon like this quite before.  It's like we underachieving males can vicariously live all our athletically failed dreams through a bunch of stats on a computer screen from guys we've never met before in our lives!  It's like we can have the greatness of March Madness bracket office pools 16 weeks out of the year!  I'm gonna stick to the free leagues for now though.  I don't know what kind of monster I'd become if I actually invested money into a fantasy league.

  • College football transforms
I've always thought it funny how college football can transform a non-athletic, non-sports individual into a rabid, foaming at the mouth, fan.  I have a couple of friends who really aren't much into sports, playing or watching them, but when it comes to their college football team or alma mater, they're freaks.   I think it's cool actually but I think it's funny how that happens.  The most interesting is the girls.  On the outside their these gentle, graceful persons, but when it comes to Saturday gameday, they paint themselves like Indian war chiefs and go buck wild at games.  Crazy stuff that college football; especially if you have a Top 25 team.
