Seeing, hearing and touching your dream car - (John Wojciech) I was up early today, watering the lawn at my house noticing how gorgeous the weather was looking. Perfectly blue sky, cool, sunny, and just lovely. I then decided to literally, "dust off" my CS, and drive that into work this morning. As I do on days like today. Little did I realize that that decision would allow me to meet an owner of my favorite Super Car ever built. I was driving down Hunter Mill Road heading off to Reston for the day, as I do on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cruising past the gas station there, I decided to check my mirrors. ...wait...could that really be behind me? Maybe it's a mirage? Maybe it's a kit car? The one time I wanted to HIT all the red lights down towards Plaza America...I hit all green ones. Thusly, I had to take the following two photos from my phone, while driving, catching the reflection of the vehicle behind me. Do any of you know what that fantastic red car is in the photos below? ![]()
Well I knew right away what it was. A Ford GT. Now, I'm a, "car guy". Always have been, prolly always will be. I've drawn hundreds of 'em and built over 50 car models in my youth. Have owned a fair share, and really enjoy them to this day. I have a set of favorites, and happen to own one of them...my BMW e9. However, as far as the, "Super Car" category is concerned...my favorite has always been the Ford GT 40, produced to, "open up a can of American WHUP A$$ on Mr.Enzo Ferrari". Which is exactly what it did in the late 60's. Here is some more information on the original production run. My younger brother and I ran into an original GT 40 at the good 'ol Texaco (Slush Puppie anyone?) in Vienna, about 5 years ago or so. It was staggering, and the new version is just as incredible. Ford decided to redesign the original GT 40 (the 40 in the name refers to the fact that the original Super Car was 40" high off the ground), in the Spring of 2004, with a limited production number of 4500. I've watched the, "Top Gear" review prolly 20 times, and often find myself pricing them on eBay. Ha! Pipe Dreams JW! Well the light at Whiele and Hunter Mill was red, the owner sped up alongside me to (GET THIS RACE FANS!) ...compliment ME on MY car!! Saying that the e9 was the first sports car he ever really thought was worth getting. I was blown away. He offered to pull into the next parking area, to discuss the vehicles we were both driving. Well, I greedily accepted. See the pics below. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, we discussed our cars for a good 25 minutes, exchanged business cards, and wished each other well. I think there are 2 things that he said that amazed me most. The first quote I will explain myself... "Well, I really like the idea of knowing that it's up to me to decide whether any Ferrari out there is in front of me, or behind me." This is a testament to the speed, and construction of his GT. What a memorable thought, that this guy declares that if he feels inclined to pass pretty much any car on the road...he can. Though the owner was so much more than gracious, he never smiled, or ever seemed to really be beaming about his car. Maybe he's just a chill personality? Maybe he was playing that, "Ahhh, I love to see how the common-people get so excited when they see the Rich People toys" role? I have no idea. So the next quote which really struck me was, "Well, there are a few things in life that give me pleasure. Driving my cars, and having other people admire and enjoy my cars." But I think I'll leave the explanation of that quote to the CEO, CIO, and President of EbbWorld to tackle at his leisure. |
